I wrote this song for my son, Alexander Grayson, and decided to make a little music video out of it. It can be downloaded at Bandcamp.com in case anyone wants to use it for Father’s Day this year.

Blessings,

Rick Lee James

Lyrics:

Love Drawn Near (Song for My Son)
Rick Lee James

Verse 1
There’s so much to learn as I’m watching you grow my son.
You’re still a baby and there is much work to be done.
Don’t wait around for your life begin, your life has already begun

(So)Follow me boy, I’ll help you learn all that you can.
There’s so many steps on the road to becoming a man.
There will be days when I can’t be around, so listen as close as you can.
These are the things I am praying for you, that I hope you’ll understand

Chorus
I want you to know more than just how to walk, I want you to walk in the light.
To Love the Lord God with your Heart and your Soul, with every last ounce of your might.
There will be doubts and there will be fears but don’t let them ruin your way.
Love is greater than fear, and God is love drawn near.

Verse 2
(There’s) no greater love than to lay down your life for a friend.
But there will be days when you doubt you have any of them.
Some people never learned how to love well, but they prob’ly need it the most
Remember God’s love is not just for your friends, it’s even for your greatest foes.
Chorus
I want you to know more than just how to walk, I want you to walk in the light.
To Love the Lord God with your Heart and your Soul, with every last ounce of your might.
There will be doubts and there will be fears but don’t let them ruin your way.
Love is greater than fear, and God is love drawn near.

Bridge:
Your heart will dance, your heart will sing, your heart will cry, but as long as it beats
Let it belong to the Lord of all things for the pure in heart will see God

Verse 3
There is a lie that says life is about getting more.
But Christ will be found when you walk with the weak and the poor.
I’m here to pray that your heart will be full with a love that is faithful and kind
Blessed is the man who will seek nothing less than the Kingdom of God in this life.

Chorus
I want you to know more than just how to walk, I want you to walk in the light.
To Love the Lord God with your Heart and your Soul, with every last ounce of your might.
There will be doubts and there will be fears but don’t let them ruin your way.
Love is greater than fear, and God is love drawn near.

During the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013, two pressure cooker bombs exploded at 2:49 p.m. EDT , killing 3 people and injuring 264. Once again the American people were asking the question, where is God in the midst of this. On Sunday night April 21st at Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Lexington Kentucky, Matthew Cole, Chad Cook, and Rick Lee James led a discussion based on the question, Where is God when evil happens? A recording of that discussion is presented to you this week’s episode of Voices In My Head.

My guests today are David Leonard and Leslie Jordan, better known to most of us by their stage name, All Sons and Daughters.  Their new live album is absolutely amazing. It’s filled with worship songs that have a classic feel without being derivative of other popular worship music. In addition to being worship leaders at Journey Church in Franklin Tennessee, they are also sought after performing artists, even joining Chris Tomlin recently on the Burning Lights Tour. It’s my pleasure to welcome Integrity Music Recording Artists, All Sons and Daughters to Voices In My Head today.
