My guest on this episode of Voices In My Head is Stephen Tobolowsky. Stephen is one of the leading character actors in film today. USA Today listed Stephen as the 9th most frequently seen actor in movies; he has appeared over 200 movies and television shows. See here for credits.

He is best known for playing Ned Ryerson in Groundhog Day, Sammy Jankis in Memento, Werner Brandes in Sneakers, Happy Chapman in Garfield, and Mr. Bates in Freaky Friday.  On television, he played Tor Ekland on Seinfeld, Hugo Jarry on Deadwood, Bob Bishop on Heroes,  Sandy Ryerson on Glee and Stu Beggs on Californication. He is currently on screen in Silicon Valley and The Goldbergs.  Stephen will also appear in Netflix’s new series by Norman Lear, One Day at a Time (a new generation remake!); season 2 starts filming in June.

He wrote and performed Stephen Tobolowsky’s Birthday Party and The Primary Instinct, and wrote True Stories with David Byrne and Beth Henley.

His podcast with David Chen “The Tobolowsky Files” is available at Slashfilm.com and on iTunes, and also previously broadcast on KUOW 94.9 in Seattle, on WFPL in Louisville, KY and many stations through Public Radio International (PRI).*

His first book of stories, The Dangerous Animals Club, is published by Simon & Schuster September 25, 2012.  His second book, My Adventures with God, is now available everywhere, also published by Simon & Schuster.

Fun Facts:

He performed with Stevie Ray Vaughn when Stevie was 14 and cut the first songs Stevie ever performed.

Voices In My Head Podcast #168: Opening For Crowder, Suicide Squad, and Other News

This episode was recorded on the road after a viewing of the movie, Suicide Squad. I share my thoughts on the film and tell about seven news both for the podcast and for me professionally as a musician. This episode was recorded completely from my iPhone as a way of experimenting with new recording software. I hope you enjoy it.

Rick Lee James News

What an exciting year this has been and it’s not even over yet.  Since January I’ve had the privilege to work with Michael CardJason GrayAndrew PetersonAndrew OsengaBrian ZahndSara GrovesEddie KirklandTripp York, Brannon Hancock, and many other great people on my weekly Podcast, Voices In My Head.

In May I officially became a “real” songwriter with the offer of a publishing contract withLifeway Worship.

In August an article I wrote was published inWorship Leader Magazine called, “Billy Joel Taught Me How To Pray”.

In September I recorded my first live album/DVD at the Clifton Opera House (To Be Released Soon).

I also played music for a number of camps, spoke in lots of venues, and played a bunch of concerts.  The best news of all is that I found out I am going to be a father.  Little Alexander Grayson James is scheduled to arrive around January 17th, 2013.

With that in mind, knowing that I will need all the bookings I can get with a new mouth to feed, I wanted to let you know that I am currently scheduling concerts for the upcoming year.  With the upcoming release of my first live DVD, “Basement Psalms” I’m putting a Psalms tour together in several different venues in 2013.  If you are interested in hosting a leg of the Psalms tour simply send me an Email and we can work out the details together.  I don’t want money to be an issue so if you feel you can’t afford it or have never hosted a concert before, never fear, because I have some steps for you that can help make your event painless.

Finally, I just wanted to remind you that I’m holding over my $4.99 album sale atCDBaby.com since the holidays are quickly approaching and I don’t want to break your bank.

Well, I guess that’s about it for now.  If you haven’t had a chance to hear my podcast yet, why not check it out over at www.VoicesInMyHeadPodcast.com, or better yet, download it on iTunes.  Thank you for all your love and support.
