10 Things To Consider Before Watching The Latest Left Behind Film

For those of you thinking about seeing the new Left Behind film, here are 10 things to keep in mind before you do.

1.) Revelation is a book of worship, not a book about “The Rapture”.
2.) “The Rapture” is not a concept found anywhere in scripture. It just isn’t there and you have to be very creative to put it there.
3.) “The Rapture” is based on misreading a few different New Testament passages, 1 Thessalonians 4:16, Matthew 24:40-41, Revelation 20:4-6.
4.) The people who wrote the scriptures above would not have any concept of “The Rapture”. It never entered their thought process and would have been an absurd, foreign concept to them.
5.) The doctrine of the Rapture is not mentioned in any Christian writings until after the year 1830 C.E.
6.) According to the scriptures above, you actually WANT to be left behind. Those who are taken are in some deep trouble.
7.) Left Behind Theology completely flies in the face of everything we know that Jesus teaches us about the Kingdom of God. Followers of Jesus don’t escape from a world in peril, Christians are the light of Christ in the darkness of a world in peril, shining out the promise of hope and healing, bearing the image of Christ in a desperate world.

8.) The good news of the Gospel is the love of Christ, not the wrath of God.
9.) There is never a time, past, present, or future, when God will not be reigning. The Nicene Creed was written in part to combat any other belief about God’s reign.
10.) Nicolas Cage is in the movie.

For some more Theologically sound views on the Book of Revelation, I would suggest these fine books:
